Welcome to CSTEP! We provide customized strategies for success for underrepresented students on track for careers in medicine, law, STEM, education, health, accounting, and more. Alumni of our program credit CSTEP with providing opportunities to study abroad, fostering personal and professional contacts, and helping them to complete their degree. CSTEP is a program of the New York State Department of Education.
Founded in 1986, CSTEP is guided by a belief that lifelong success requires holistic support. We provide academic enrichment and research experience in STEM areas, supervised training in research methods, graduate/professional school admissions preparation, standardized test preparation (LSAT, MCAT, etc.), and personal and professional development activities.
You’ll gain a competitive advantage through opportunities that include professional development workshops, leadership conferences, graduate/professional school tours, resume critiques, structured study, supplemental instruction, interdisciplinary internship/research opportunities, scholarship/fellowship information sessions, service-learning experiences, and a special pre-health track that features membership in the American Medical Student Association.
Including the SUcess series that prepares first-year students for a positive SU experience through free seminars, Peer Led Team Learning to strengthen conceptual understanding of rigorous courses such as organic chemistry, and the Gateway Program for pre-health students offering step-by-step strategies to prepare students for careers in health.
A supportive and experienced CSTEP advisor will help you realize your academic, physical, social, financial, and professional goals. Together you’ll create your own personal blueprint for lifelong satisfaction and professional growth.
It’s often personal relationships that open doors to understanding and opportunity. When you become a CSTEP scholar, you join a group of students, faculty, staff, and alumni who will help you to network with government, corporate, and community partners.
