TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) works to enroll and retain to graduation eligible students. We collaborate with students to make the undergraduate experience a rich and productive one in order to prepare them for success in a changing, diverse, and increasingly global environment. Our program works with the various schools, colleges, and other offices across Syracuse University to cultivate a community of support for SSS participants and to ensure our students are connected with necessary resources.
We have over thirty years of experience in developing close relationships with students to identify and achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. Our staff work diligently with students and their families to ensure they are progressing towards these goals semester after semester. If you bring the dreams, we will work with you on a plan for success.
Incoming first year students admitted to Syracuse University under the auspices of the SSS project will be required to participate in a pre-freshman summer bridge program. At that point they will be assigned an Academic Counselor who will work with them to craft the best educational experience possible. SSS assists students in four primary areas: academic support; career and professional development; financial literacy and grant support; and personal counseling. SSS Academic Counselors are mentors, teachers, friends, and advocates. As long as an SSS student remains enrolled at SU full time, we will provide support.
Student Support Services is a program funded by the U.S. Department of Education for students who meet federal income guidelines, and who are first-generation college students or students with disabilities evidencing academic need. Syracuse University also demonstrates its commitment to this program by providing participants with full need financial aid awards.
