SSS Celebrates Student Accomplishments with Student Spotlight Series

Student Spotlight

HEOP and SSS are proud of our students’ accomplishments in the classroom, research, and beyond. This can range from a variety of activities including campus involvement/community service, study abroad, design/creativity/the arts, internships/summer jobs, social justice/activism/civic engagement, or creative problem solving in a virtual world.

Georgia Barton, Class of 2021
The David B. Falk School of Sport and Human Dynamic

Georgia was accepted into the New York-Presbyterian Dietetic Internship for their March 2022 class. She was awarded their $6,000 scholarship, which enables applicants from diverse backgrounds an opportunity to participate in their dietetic program. It is a 50-week long program offering post-baccalaureate training in Nutrition and Dietetics and prepares Dietetic Intern graduates to be competent entry-level Registered Dietitians/Nutritionists.

 

Keebah Garnet, Class of 2021

School of Information Studies

Keebah’s position at EY in the Atlanta office will be a Staff 1 in the Risk Consulting Practice. Keebah had the opportunity to intern at EY in the summer of 2019 and 2020, in the Launch and Client Serving programs, respectively. In this time, she was able to experience what life after college as a Risk Consultant would look like.

 

Mauricio Luna, Class of 2024
College of Arts & Sciences

Mauricio is a first-year student studying remotely this semester in Mexico and on top of taking a full-time course load, he is the main campaign advisors for 3 political candidates within local and federal congress. As a campaign advisor, Mauricio’s responsibilities include strategizing and organizing for their upcoming election on June 8th. Mauricio is also responsible for the social media vision of the campaign and how the campaign is portrayed.

 

Yarijel Melendez-Troche, Class of 2021
College of Arts & Sciences

Yarijel is working and living in D.C.; she has an internship with NGO and is taking classes at the Greenberg House.

Remembrance Scholars are chosen in their junior year through a rigorous, competitive process. Applicants submitted an essay and a reflective response in multimedia, artistic, musical or written format as part of a comprehensive application, and finalists were interviewed by members of the selection committee, composed of University faculty, staff and current Remembrance Scholars. The $5,000 scholarships are awarded on the basis of scholarship, leadership and service to the community. Click here for more information.
